Sergio Tigera graduated with a double-major in International Business and Marketing from Florida International University in 2001. During his time there, he was elected Student Body President as well as the President of the State Council of Student Body Presidents of the Florida Students Association. After graduation, he was hired by Caterpillar, Inc, a Fortune 50 company and the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment and placed into the management training program. Over the next 14 years, Sergio’s impressive career at Caterpillar led him to a number of sales, marketing and management positions across four countries and three continents, moving 7 times in 14 years. He started his career in Illinois as a Marketing Rep for 3 years in various management rotational positions. After successfully leading a project in Spain, he was promoted to Marketing Manager based in Geneva, Switzerland managing 8 products sold into Europe, Africa & the Middle East. In the 2.5 years in this role he broke all time European sales records at Caterpillar and generated $180 million in sales. Sergio was then promoted to Sales & Operations Manager for two independent dealers, based out of Rome, Italy. Throughout the next 3 years, he improved dealer profitability by 20% and successfully managed a $140 million dealer acquisition of another dealer. Sergio was promoted again and sent to Panama City, Panama to serve as an International Territory Manager for the Caribbean and Northern South America where he went on to set all time sales and revenue records in Colombia and the region as a whole. He finally returned back home to Miami, FL in 2012 when he was asked to manage the product sales and support team and exceeded his target of $230 million annual business plans, developing sales and marketing strategies for four product lines (13 products) for 30 independent dealers in Latin America.

In 2015, Sergio completed the Executive MBA at Florida International University with a 3.98 GPA and completed an International Consortium Program at the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town, South Africa. Upon graduation, Sergio was offered the role of Executive Director of Development at Florida International University’s College of Business. In this role, he led a team of eight, including frontline business development, alumni relations, stewardship and events team to achieving results of 135% vs goal in development fundraising.

In January 2017, Sergio became the Executive Director of U.S. Market Development for The Pacific Institute, a global consultancy with over four decades of expertise in delivering customized solutions that  empower organizations and individuals to improve performance and reach their full potential.

Sergio attributes his results to taking a sincere interest in his teams, leveraging individual strengths, setting clear expectations and measuring results. Sergio speaks English, Spanish, Italian and French. He has served on the Florida International University Alumni Board for 3 years, he was a recipient of the South Florida Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” Award, and was nominated for The Sun Sentinel’s “Top Workplace Professionals” award. He participates in triathlons, half marathons and enjoys travelling. Sergio is married to Aslynn Rivera-Tigera, they have a 6-year old daughter Gianna and a 1-year old son Giancarlo.
